The weekend of February 23-25 was Tsisqan Lodge’s annual Workshop Weekend at Camp Baker — a weekend filled with Scouting and OA-related classes to teach the participants useful skills they can bring back to their units. There were many classes that Arrowmen could partake in fitting the event theme of “Those Who Love the Woods and Camping.”
The classes held mainly reflected the theme, such as how to make charcloth, what makes good backpacking food, and more. However, some classes went beyond the theme with one example being how to run a service project and a class on ceremonies. With 17 classes , we ensured that there would be a class that would interest all participants.
The weekend also had many opportunities to promote brotherhood and cheerful service. We had ten members achieve their Brotherhood. During the event we achieved a total of 42 service hours. The main service project worked on at the event was building shelves in the quartermaster shed to help with organization for the summer. Some adults also headed to the archery range to help clear a fallen tree and the youth helped move brush and wood rounds. This was a great start for the year, and we plan on achieving more service throughout the year.
Overall the weekend was a great success, where we helped Arrowmen advance their skills in a fun way as well and still have some time to provide service to camp. Our first event comes to a successful end but we are excited for the rest of the year, including conclave.
