What an incredible event it was!!! After 5 years of waiting, NLS and DYLC came back to Portland!!
On March 18-20th at Camp Kuratli, the Gateway Region hosted the National Leadership Seminar(NLS) and Developing Youth Leadership Conference(DYLC). Arrowmen from all around the region gathered in the Pacific Northwest for a weekend full of amazing leadership training and fellowship.
During the training, Arrowmen learned various leadership skills like their learning styles, personal values, adaptive leadership, and problem-solving. They also learned the state of the OA as an organization to generate a renewed passion for service to the OA. One of the greatest benefits of NLS is the opportunity to share ideas with fellow Scouts from outside your area and strengthen your own program. Learners are grouped into crews — groups of Arrowmen who go through the seminar together and build lasting friendships. Each crew started their own expedition on Friday and submitted Mt. Everest on Saturday during Everest Challenger.
Special thanks to Tim Reiss, our 2022 National Chief of the Order of the Arrow, as well as Dirk Smelser, our 2022 Gateway Region Chief for joining us at Camp Kuratli.
On behalf of the Gateway Region and NLS staff, we’re grateful that we got to host an NLS this year in Portland and we cannot wait to see how learners take back skills they learned at NLS and make a difference. Remember, if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.
