Brothers,
Over the past 48 hours, communities across our section have been devastated by wildfires, forcing thousands to leave everything behind and evacuate their homes, not knowing if they will ever see them again. In some places, entire communities have been lost. The devastation has been horrific, incomprehensible and unbelievable. There is not a community in the section that has not been impacted by these fires. These are our neighbors, friends, family members, and fellow Scouts and Scouters.
We cannot even begin to understand the fear, sadness, and stress that you are feeling right now. However, we want you to know that you are not alone. In every community, we have seen overwhelming support, compassion and kindness. From helping neighbors evacuate their livestock, to donating food and water or volunteering their time at a shelter, our communities continue to step up.
We want to express our sincere gratitude for all the men and women helping keep our friends and families safe. Whether a firefighter battling the blazes or a volunteer feeding those who have been displaced, THANK YOU!
Author Jodi Picoult once wrote, “the human capacity for burden is like bamboo – far more flexible than you’d ever believe at first glance.” The effects of this disaster will linger for many weeks, months and even years to come. It will be difficult, but together, we will continue on.
Reach out to your brothers. Offer your support. Lend a helping hand. But above all else, always remember to love one another.
From all of us at Section W-1S to everyone that has been affected by these fires, our thoughts are with you, we stand with you, and be safe!
Yours in Brotherhood,
James Verheyden | Section Chief
Dirk Smelser | Section Vice Chief
Ryo Takei | Section Secretary
