You are never too old to do anything. As a twenty-year-old Scout, I have spent almost my entire life in this organization. Eight summers, thousands of service hours, and seven years in leadership in the OA. My youth is coming to a close. Some of you might be coming of that age as well. As youth-led as our order is, our advisers spectate and do the heavy lifting. I could always count on my advisers if I was unsure of something, ask for advice on certain issues, or to help in any way they could.
Leadership doesn’t end when you become twenty-one, earn your Eagle, or go off to college. I started college in 2022 and I make it a goal to make it to Scouts and attend chapter meetings. I have those weeks where I feel like there is nothing for me to do, but that’s not true. I know what this organization is about and its effects on these youth. I have met many Scouts who tell me they would not be the same person today without Scouting. I do it for them and for when I have kids of my own.
Your work in the Order of the Arrow and Scouting as a whole is meaningful and worthwhile. Keep hiking on the Scouting trail.
